GWHS CONCERT BAND

The George Wythe High School Concert Band is comprised of 8th - 12th grade students. Members explore a wide variety of wind band literature as well as fine tune skill sets through the development of fundamentals and overall individual technique. This ensemble performs at local concerts and 1-2 band festivals in the spring. Concert Band is a year-long course offered during 5th Block.

6TH & 7TH GRADE BANDS

The Beginning Band is designed to provide students with an introductory experience on band instruments. Beginning Band is open to all 6th Grade students. Prior instrumental music experience is not required. Recruiting and enrollment registration occur in the spring of the 5th Grade year at Spiller Elementary School & beginning of the 6th Grade year at Scott Memorial Middle School. A Parent Meeting to discuss obtaining or renting an instrument is held at the beginning of the school year. The Band will perform at two concerts throughout the year.

7th Grade Band is a year-long class that is continuation of 6th Grade Band.  This class will continue to develop students’ musical skills with even more exciting and challenging pieces of music. Students will begin to learn how to take the skills they learn and apply these concepts to their everyday band setting. This band will perform in at least two concerts throughout the school year.
