Mr. Dan Wilner - Director of Bands - George Wythe High School & Scott Memorial Middle School

Dan Wilner is a 1995 graduate of Powhatan High School. Mr. Wilner received his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Virginia Tech. He served as Principal Trombone for the University Wind Ensemble and the New River Valley Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Wilner was Drum Major of the Marching Virginians for two years. In 2001, he served as an assistant to Mr. David McKee for the Virginia Tech Basketball Pep Band.

Mr. Wilner's professional teaching career began at Staunton River Middle School in Moneta, VA, where he served for two years as Director of Bands, as well as, Assistant Director of the Staunton River High School Marching Band.
In 2003, Mr. Wilner accepted the Liberty High School (Bedford) Band Director position, where he taught for four years earning numerous awards and superior ratings.

From 2007 to 2013, Mr. Wilner was the Director of Bands at Chilhowie Middle and High Schools in Smyth County, VA. Under Mr. Wilner's direction, the Chilhowie High School Band received five consecutive superior ratings at VBODA Concert Assessment, and numerous Grand Champion awards from various marching competitions.
In July of 2013, Mr. Wilner was appointed Director of Bands at Pulaski County High School in Dublin, VA. Under his direction, the Golden Cougar Band earned Virginia Honor Band recognition.

In 2014, Mr. Wilner accepted the Band Director position at George Wythe High School and Scott Memorial Middle School in Wytheville, VA, where he resides with his wife, Abby, and their children, Sam and Emmy.
